To whom it may concern,
We wish to report NSW Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, for promoting policy that is at odds with the human right of informed consent to treatment.
Recently, Dr Chant lobbied the Ballina Shire Council to vote for a measure that overrides the human right of informed consent to treatment.
Fluoridation chemicals will be added to this region’s water supply as a direct result of Dr Chant’s actions; and these will be used – as claimed – to treat the population for the disease of dental caries.
The human right of informed consent to treatment demands that consent be obtained from all those receiving the treatment.
No individual, authority, or organisation can override the right of informed consent to treatment. Therefore, Dr Chant and the Council’s actions are unethical by international bioethics standards, since consent has not been obtained.
For NSW Health to maintain integrity as an organisation, before the people of Australia and the International/bioethics community, it has no choice but to act to discipline Dr Chant.
Failure to do so will result in an official breach of ethics notification, which will be submitted to the International Bioethics Committee (IBC).
This is an open/public letter.
