Dear Council,

We commend the well-informed positions taken by Cr Nancy Sommerfield and Cr Bill Cahill (as outlined in the article linked above), whilst we reject the misinformed views presented by Dr Rob Sivertsen in said article. Dr Sivertsen’s assertions are easily refuted in the following Victorian public presentation, by Dr. Paul Connett, a former Professor of Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology:

In addition to viewing this presentation, we highly recommend that all Council members read the book review below, written by Professor C Vyvyan Howard:

Professor Howard is Professor of Bioimaging at the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ulster, and is a medically-qualified toxico-pathologist and the current leader of the Nano Systems Research Group. The book under review is The Case Against Fluoride, ISBN: 9781603582872, by Dr. Paul Connett, Dr. James Beck, and Dr. Spedding Micklem. According to Dr. Howard:

“The authors have produced a well-researched, cogently argued, and very readable text that summarises historical, political, ethical, toxicological, and epidemiological scientific data behind drinking water fluoridation…. The text is approachable by non-scientists and specialists, although an extensive technical bibliography is provided for those who wish to delve deeper.”

We suggest that local Toowoomba dentist, Dr Rob Sivertsen, becomes properly acquainted with the scientific literature, before he makes bold claims to your community of fluoridation’s “safety” and “efficacy.” As members of Council, we trust that you will hold Dr Rob Sivertsen’s feet to the fire.
