I have recently visited your website, and could not help but notice, you have no Chief Medical Officer listed on your Staff page ( http://shoalwater.nsw.gov.au/company/contact.htm ). I find this omission astounding, considering that on your FAQ page ( http://shoalwater.nsw.gov.au/services/watersupply_faq.htm ), you confirm that your company is delivering fluoride treatment to the bodies of individual community members:
Q. Who benefits from Fluoride in drinking water safe?
The entire community benefits from water fluoridation regardless of a person’s age, income level or education or ability to get dental care. Fluoridation has been practiced in parts of NSW for more than 50 years. Now more than 90 percent of the population in NSW receives fluoridated water.
A concentration of 1.0 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride can reduce the amount of cavities in children’s baby teeth by as much as 60 percent and adults’ teeth by nearly 35 percent.
Q. How does fluoride work?
Fluoride in the water supply acts like a constant repair kit for teeth.
Tooth decay develops when acid in the mouth produced from sugar and bacteria destroys the outer surface of the tooth. A constant supply of low level fluoride in the mouth can reduce the risk of acid damage and repair any damage before it becomes permanent.
Q. Can you smell or taste fluoride in water?
The fluoride to be used in water fluoridation has no taste or smell. It will not alter the taste or smell of the drinking water.
Q. Should my child continue taking fluoride supplements?
Fluoride supplements used to be were previously recommended as an alternative source of fluoride in non-fluoridated areas. Current evidence indicates that fluoride supplements in the form of drops or tablets must not be used .
Q. Do water filters remove fluoride from the water?
Many home water filtering systems do not significantly alter the fluoride content of water, although reverse osmosis filters do remove most fluoride. Check with the manufacturer for details on your filtering system.
Do you mean to tell me that you are delivering a systemic medicinal treatment to all your customers, and you DON’T have a Chief Medical Officer responsible for:
Since your company, as your Service Commitment states, “is committed to providing our customers with high quality water… services… to continually measure the services being provided,” how are you “measuring” the “high quality” of the medicinal treatment outcomes, which you are delivering?
In light of the questions above:
Since you obviously do not have a Chief Medical Officer to take responsibility for providing me with the above-requested data, I will expect you to personally guarantee, as the Director – that by delivering fluoridation chemicals to your community – your company has established an adequate margin of safety to protect every individual in your community from potential harmful effects of fluoride ingestion.
If you claim there are no ill-effects occurring, or likely to occur, you better have the data to back this assertion; and be willing to be held personally responsible for the accuracy of this claim.
Deferral to a third party, such as the Health Department, will not be accepted. Your company is delivering the medicinal treatment, therefore, you, as the Director of this company, are personally responsible for the safety of the delivered treatment. Furthermore, be advised, safety precedes effectiveness on matters of public health, so you are advised to prioritize the data I have requested accordingly.
Failure to deliver (within 5 business days of receipt of this email) adequate proof of safety will result in me notifying the media and the public, both in Australia and internationally, of your unwillingness or inability to provide this data.
